Ong-goings

Light Up

LE
“Private” (as in closed to the public due to Covid) fireworks show right across the street from us. Only a handful of these closed shows were going around this year so we got lucky this one was so close.

LE
Got a little loud for E.

LE

LE

LE
The blinding grand finale…

LE
Full moon from our deck.

LE
We call these two brothers from another mother.

LE

LE

LE

LE
Biked to Waterfront Park where they played for hours and could’ve gone on for longer…

LE

LE

LE

LE

LE
That light… still makes us hold our breath for a sec (or more).

LE
Hard to believe we were just inside the Star of India a few months prior…

LE
Oh to be a kid again.

LE

LE

LE
Hiking down a canyon to a waterfall with J.

LE
Good to see J’s dad who had knee surgery a few months ago.

LE
It was pretty steep and rocky.

LE
The boys led the way.

LE
Made it to the cooling waters.

LE

LE

LE

LE
The ascent was easier in some ways without as much slipping and sliding. :P

LE

LE

LE

LE
Waiting for our takeout.

LE
Daddy’s deal: you can watch only while planking. :P

LE
Quarantine tail.

LE
Before Salon a la Papa Ong.

LE
After.

LE
And this boy has been reading LOTS!

A Different Summer

School ended, places have been re-opening but as cases are still rising, we are taking it day by day… It’s weird not having any trips or in-person camps planned. Instead, we’ve been doing little outings here and there — micro stay-cays?

LE
He was so excited to meet up with a good friend. Their family has also been practicing strict quarantine protocol so we decided to meet outdoors for a bike ride by the coast.

LE

LE
They could have spent hours in this tree — lots of catching up to do! Though they have been keeping in touch weekly via FaceTime and the occasional snail mail.

LE
These views helps us forget the situation for just a while…

LE

LE
Neighbors slowly coming out from “hibernation” for some socially distant chat and play…

LE

LE
Embarked on an urban, historical three bridges hike for Father’s Day.

LE

LE

LE
A peaceful meditation garden/center where we were allowed to roam the grounds.

LE

LE
Speak [loudly] and carry a big stick in E’s case. :)

LE
Opted for a rare takeout on Dad’s day — the boys were quite excited about mango sticky rice for dessert.

LE
To a farm for some summer berry pickin’.

LE
Another long lost buddy… They have not been out as well.

LE
Daddy became a blueberry snob through the ordeal — they have to be a certain size, plumpness, color, etc. :D

LE

LE
Buckets full. (Though they really picked very little and just circled ’round the fields while the parents were on the hunt for the best fruit, haha).

LE
Someone got a little hot. ;-)

LE
We decided to head to a park around the corner for the boys to run around some more and gasp, this playground was open — this was outside of SD county so we guessed had different rules. First time at a public playground in months! It was seriously like a million Christmas days for them.

LE
Of course prying them away was not an easy feat. And then came a thorough sanitization before heading home…

Age of a Pandemic

LE
All masked up when we went to pick out a fruit tree. We weren’t the only ones with that idea. Gardening is like the thing now. :P They were sold out of papaya trees so we ended up getting a starfruit one. Hoping we’ll take good care of it so it’ll bear fruit for us.

LE
Six feet apart from Daddy!

LE
Went to check out the red tide. It was mighty stinky, too.

LE
He built a little all-enclosed “base” on the lower bunk. But didn’t catch Mommy spying.

LE
New office. :)

LE
Curbside coffee (dad), matcha (mom), brownie (kid) en route to San Clemente for some hiking along the coast.

LE
Seemed like OC was more lax than SD. There were signs about current guidelines and nobody appeared to be following them. :\

LE

LE
Private b-day party for daddy and our annual kitchen counter pic.

LE
Socially distant water activities opened up.

LE
Triple.

LE
Back to good ole’ pen pal’ing.

LE
Afternoon hike on a new to us trail up north…

LE
Neighbor’s b-day party, quarantine style.

LE
Some tide-pooling at a beach we’ve never explored before. Love that there’s always new things to discover here, especially during these times.
