Discoveries

Daddy’s company hosted a Family Day at Sci-Tech Discovery Center. It was the world premiere of “EYELLUSIONS”, an exhibit showcasing the neuroscience behind mind-boggling illusions. The gallery and interactive programs were very well done and intriguing but the concepts were a bit of a stretch for E’s age.

We went into this little contraption and people outside see you as a holographic, all transparent!

This room made one look either really big or really small, depending on where you stood.

And then we wandered beyond the main hall to the permanent installations and that’s where all the magic happened for E! :) There were things to build, stack, join, roll, click, lift, lower and on and on and on.

We had a couple of extra tickets and invited E’s older friend, Joseph, to come. They made a great team! E seems to prefer playing with kids NOT his age. :P

It was another one of those “I-just-can’t-get-enough-of-this-place” days. At least for the young’un. :) Sci-Tech is right next to the Museum of the American Railroad so when we walked out to grab lunch at our designated food truck, we saw tracks and railroad cars. Trains > food for *someone* apparently so we took a walk beside the grounds of the museum. There, we ran into some friends from Gymboree and found out that the location we usually go to was closing (and in a few days)! :( Such sudden news as we had just been a few days prior and had not heard anything. :((

Then on our way back home, we tried to stop by the Frisco Farm Stop where we had finally found a respectable green tea latte in the area and there was a sign on the door saying it had been closed due to non-payment of rent. :( And yet another finding was the imminent closing of Champion – our fave place for homemade grass jelly. We went one last time on their final day before shutting down. It made us recollect all the times we frequented it while G was preggo and we were learning all things baby and so in anticipation of little E!

So these small business closings put us in kind of a somber mood. Nothing lasts forever, enjoy it while you can, life is vanity? Okay, let’s be more positive. Count your blessings and live purposefully! :)

We rounded out the weekend with yet another discovery: the lunar eclipse and blood moon. Not to happen again ’til 2033? What a phenomenon! And a fitting “ending” of sorts just thinking about the vastness of space and the universe; the God who holds all these things in the palm of His hands; and yet also our Father who loves and cares deeply for us, as tiny, insignificant as we and our mindless little matters like begone drinks and desserts and fleeting amusement are…

Take to the Skies

The last time we went to the Alliance Air Show was when we were dating! With E so into planes of late, we’d thought it’d be just the thing for him. The static displays were impressive and E thought it pretty darn coolio to explore inside many of them. As usual, Daddy was the walking encyclopedia (personal tour guide?) and knew the names of all the flying vehicles AND the history behind them. :)

Of course the highlight of the afternoon were the Blue Angels! And second time around, it was still a thunderously magnificent performance!!! We brought hearing protection for E cuz yes, parts of it were deafening.

During the show, E saw some kids playing with toy Blue Angel planes so midway he whispered, “Toy airplane, Daddy” and then every minute or so thereafter. :D Since it was a special outing, we got him one, reminding him again we don’t always buy everything we see or want. And he’s actually been very good about that — he will play and look at something at the store but when we tell him it’s time to go and we’re not buying it, he will relent. Sometimes later than sooner but eventually… He was delighted with his Blue Angel, of course. (For a few days? ;-P)

And the carnival came to town — it was like a mini state fair complete with midway, rides, games and more! We went the first night to check it out and E immediately wanted to ride the flying helicopters. We got our tickets only to get stopped by the operator saying he wasn’t tall enough. :( He barely missed it by maybe 1 inch or less? He was absolutely crushed. In tears, it was simply “I want to go home.” ;*( We tried again the last night and this time, with taller shoes. BINGO! We hit the jackpot. :)

LE

LE

Mommy started feeling a little queasy after the helicopter ride but E was on cloud nine. :) We squeezed in a few other rides with no height Nazi intrusion! ;P The bumper cars were another hit — E rode twice, once each with Mommy and Daddy.

Autumn Tease

Mommy’s first race of the season was at The Arboretum so Daddy and Son came later for a rockin’ after-party/picnic and a day at the Children’s Adventure Garden.

LE

20K PR and a Luke’s Locker GC for coming in 1st AG. Tough race conditions, though — a sticky and warm day sandwiched by some fall-like previews. Glad to be done with this one and seeing the boys!

LE

LE

The highlight for him was the Water Gun Lagoon. We spent so much time in the children’s area that we barely got to browse through the Main Garden. Another time.

LE

And we are still on a quest for library ownage! It’s been a treat to visit so many different libraries. E asks for it specifically: “I wanna go library!” Books are good for the soul. :) Many of them have enjoyable toys, games, and play areas, too. The special events and storytimes are always entertaining as well.
